It's one thing to talk and say, "Yeah! one day I'm gonna own a Skyline R34!" It's something ENTIRELY DIFFERENT to go through the process and the paperwork for real. And this is where that journey and education begin.
Maybe your first exposure to JDM Cars probably came from the first time you picked up a Playstation 2, and heard the purr of a Skyline’s engine. Perhaps it was catching bits and pieces of Japanese teams in touring car events. It might have been a black and white Ae86 racing alongside an RX-7, or a Fairlady Z tearing down the Wangan or the Shotoku. Or maybe you just fell in love with the Datsun 240 SX when you were young, and it was a slow-drip obsession that gradually left an indelible mark on your soul.
"...cars are a diary in the metal, nobody has to like or understand it, except you and you alone. Building a car to be a reflection of yourself should always be goal number one." - Khyzyl Saleem & Eric Penlow
Regardless of what it was, you wanted to scratch that itch. You wanted to own one of the legends. You didn't have the money then, but you might have the money now. Or you might not have the money now, but you certainly have the ambition.
This is my journey - bringing one of the legends home to Canada and making it sing.
"You did WHAT?!?!" Dream's fiancee, when she found out he bought an J-spec RX-7
But it's not only a journey, but an education. What are the import laws? What's it really going to cost me? Where are the hidden expenses? Can I source parts? What have I gotten myself into? Learn with me and see if that dream of yours is actually in reach! Aside from a background in Japanese culture, I have nearly zero automotive mechanical knowledge. But that's going to change. This will be a journey and an education. And I know I'm not alone on this journey.
So, for those of you who want to come with me, have a seat (no , no ,.... get in the left - this is a right hand drive!), buckle up ( it is the law in Canada!) and get ready for the long ride
